This is the one thing I wanted from my Grandfather. It's even got his initials on it....as you can see, it's quite large, judging by how small I look sitting beside it. Oh wait, that's the boy.....

Grandpa only flew it a few times, and then it crashed ! He had just finished rebuilding the entire wing ( hence no roundels ) when he got sick and passed away.

I think (one day ) I'd like to restore it, and really add the detail to make a static display bird out of it. The maddening thing about the whole affair, is that Grandpa's 'friends ' removed the landing gear legs, custom made from billet aluminium.....thanks guys ! Now, you think since they knew I was taking the plane, they would have left the gear in it, wouldn't you ? I guess it was just too much of a free-for-all for them to resist.....

Well wasn't that just "special" of his "friends". I guess you're not one of the anointed, and I gather not a "flyer", so therefore lifting such an expensive "operating" feature was considered OK.

Truly cheesy behavior, but definitely a treasure.

Very nice Hurricane! Do you know if it was scratch built from plans or a kit? If it is from plans, I would guess the plans are by Nick Ziroli. If it is a kit, I'm guessing Valley Aviation. Reason I ask is that either way you should be able to get another fiberglass cowl for it. In regards to the missing struts, there is a company called Robart who specializes in retractable landing gear mechanisms for R/C aircraft. Look under "RoboStruts" to see if a type of oleo struts they sell will work. Hope this helps.

Sure is a beauty Toad. Shame about the legs, but you could complete it as a ceiling hanger.  ;)

Woah is that cool, Toad! Quite a legacy your Granddad left you there. I hope you'll post pics of your refurb work on it.

Thanks guys ! And thanks for the tips, Steve. He built it from plans.....but I'd like to chop her up a bit to make it a true scale bird.
