PanzerWulff

QuoteHay PanzerWulff, I love the A-10G"Warzenschwein"!
The 50mm (?) gun looks like a nightmare for any tanki!
But then I noticed the massive firepower of the four gun pods!
Wooow this would light up you night idf they were firing all at once
20mm are they?

M.A.D

actually the main gun is a 1/72 (and thus in scale with the 1/72 aircraft) 75mm,the barrel was a spare from a DML panther kit.I figured the B-25G? mitchell carried a 75mm in WWII and with modern recoil suppression an A10 could handle it.I also figured it would be a slower firing autocannon, so I figure maybe 25-30 rounds for the gun.heck a 75mm AP round from above would probably open up any tank out there! As for the gun pods they are indeed 20mm from a Hasegawa weapons set, they would probably be used in pairs seperatly from the 75mm for attacking soft or lightly armoured targets.I still need to mount a pair of Sidewinders on the starboard outer pylon for self defense

And as for Mike's A-10 WOW I LOVE IT      Kudos big time!!!

For a second I thought someone was going to suggest a Gigant outfitted like an AC-130 during WWII B)

Now thats something that 75mm gun that PanzerWulff used on his A-10 could hit, when mounted on its Panther!

Although on a serious note, I must say that I am very surprised that the German's never came up with such a concept, as they were not afraid to try such engineering challengers

Yes Mike's A-10 is great!

Next to the Israeli Air Force, I can think of no other Air Force apart from the West German Air Force capable enough and willing enough to handle the A-10 to its full potential, tearing apart the battle field and columns of armour in defence of their own territory.

Still I can not work out why no other countries did not purchase the A-10.
The cost argument does not really stand ground with me, as the ruggedness, simplicity and firepower would have paid its way, many times over in a shooting war

Family Guy

just a few thoughts....doesn't the A-10 uses 30mm shell with uranium core? The Germans were against this kind of weapon due to the damage that follows a destroying of a tank...

...there have been saome serious issues with children in kosovo playing on from A-10s and Hellfires destroyed tanks and after that they got blood cancer....not so cool

The 30mm on the A-10 aslo fires both high explosive incendiary (HEI) and armored piercing incendiary (API) ammunition as well as Depleted uranium rounds.

"Depleted uranium results from the enriching of natural uranium for use in nuclear reactors. Natural uranium is a slightly radioactive metal that is present in most rocks and soils as well as in many rivers and sea water. Natural uranium consists primarily of a mixture of two isotopes (forms) of uranium, Uranium-235 (U235) and Uranium-238 (U238), in the proportion of about 0.7 and 99.3 percent, respectively. Nuclear reactors require U235 to produce energy, therefore, the natural uranium has to be enriched to obtain the isotope U235 by removing a large part of the U238. Uranium-238 becomes DU, which is 0.7 times as radioactive as natural uranium. . Since DU has a half-life of 4.5 billion years, there is very little decay of those DU materials. When manufactured as 30mm rounds, each DU projectile contains approximately 4,650 grains [0.66 pounds (lbs)] of extruded DU, alloyed with 0.75 weight percent titanium. The projectile is encased in a 0.8 mm-thick aluminum shell as the final DU round. "
