Bolton was a great show, not just for the chat, bonhommie, models, etc..
But ideas strewn throughout a desultry brainstorm, interspersed with giggles, whoops, jokes and one or two....well one anyway.....serious moments.
Geoff P provided Pork Pies as well as magnificent 1/144th Hunter (German Navy), 1/144th TF-104G (Rhodesia), while everyone else provided smiles, laughs and a wonderful time.

But the ideas.....sprung from our wildest moments......

Mick-17 Frisky Mk 7(FR)....a reconnaisance version of the Mick-17, with grafted on pods like the RF-86F had. Nothing else decided yet about it, but it'll happen and evolve.

German Navy Hunter in the Grey/Sky finish, but with Sidewinders and built in a proper scale. Martin suggested the new Revell 1/72nd Hunter; I thought Academy 1/48th; Aircav thought the majestic Revell 1/32nd kit......I like that idea!!

Da Vinci helicopter....Dork and others contributed. Based on the Airfix Belvedere (as I'd bought one for £3.50), with open cockpit, windmill-sail-type rotors. Dork suggested these were man-powered, Cartwheels for the landing gear, much use of wood and other natural materials. Also, who does Sistene Chapel decals? This has evolved since into an open-topped cabin, perhaps shielded by a fabric roof? Or patio umbrellas??

Muzzle-loaded gunships.....OK unless the cannon is slung under the fuselage, 'cause gantries would then need to be built to reload the guns.
But obvious entries are the C-130 and Sunderland, C-117 etc.


P-40s.
I'm involved in a "Radish Challenge" to do anything to a 1/72nd P-40....any manufacturer and type. Narses suggested SEAC and I think he might do one himself. French Vichy? French Gov't in exile? Finnish? I fancy an ornithopter.

How to extend the range of a He-162 beyond a 30 minute endurance? Well, there's the "tow a fuel tank" solution.....but how do I incorporate that with a 1/32nd kit? I'll need a big enough base as it is! Seperate the wingtips from the wing and insert fuel tanks....big long ones, before restoring the wingtip? Remove the nose armament and have fuel there, and sink the guns in the wings?

These are just a tiny, small trickle of the huge number of ideas thrown around, to cascade towards the waiting, anxious public.

Yes I am going to do the SEAC P-40B from the Hobby Boss kit, hopefully start this weekend. There goes my plan to finish the hangar queens before tackling anything new  :rolleyes:

Plus another brilliant idea sprang from the Radish mind, which I am going to shamelessly pinch. Already have the kit made (it's a AFV) so it's just a paint job.

When you see how the ornithopter Dak is "evolving" you'll think I washed my med down the loo. But no, still on it. It calms me down.

Just been looking at 1/72nd figures (for the Da Vinci Bristol Belvedere) and came across Robin Hood figures.

Now giving Robin Hood helicopters could be exciting.....all that fabric, wood, etc.

And the Sheriff? AH-64s? AH-1s??
And what about Guy of Gisbourne??

Let's just revel, languish and bathe in the lunacy of it all.

And yet when I saw the constituent parts of some of the wonderful creations by Geoff B and others who build projects that weren't born in flesh but only on paper.....well, I just shudder at their skill!!

I was thinking about this at work today.  How abour a tank mounted on top of the engine?  It would have wings on it which would offset the extra fuel weight and allow it to be safely jettisoned, probably with some sort of mechanism which collapsed the wings after 10 seconds or so (similar to a V-1 fuse system but much shorter) so that the tank would fall rather than pose a risk to tha aircraft.  I would see the initial German design made out of wood and paper but later (export)designs would be metal and delete the wings as the tank would be  more or less permanent.

The tank would be unpopular with pilots and ground crews alike, but why would the procurement teams let that stop them? :lol:

Hows about the winged, towed tanks the 262s experimented with and were proposed for the F-104G Zwilling ( I kid you not!)

I like the zwilling F-104G idea though, but wouldn't inflight refueling have been better?

So, if I add some extra built-in fuel to the He-162, what about an inflight refuelling option too, say using Ju-290s, or Bv-222s?

And while we're talking refueling in the air, why didn't the F-104G, J or CF-104 have inflight refuelling? Or did it (like on the C ) but it's never been spotted??

A refuelling probe would certainly be different.
Also, there were a number of additional projects based on the He-162 format...like the twin engined one, and the other with a fsw wing, not top mention a V-tailed one.

In-flight refuelling is already covered by Michelangelo in the aforementioned Cistine Chapel. Well y'all are familier with the freeze showing the finger of God touching the finger of Adam..... Inflight refueling is exactly the same, except faster !
