Was looking at this kit the other day trying to come up with an idea for the 72nd kit.
(Hey, maybe my Grand Fenwick or Mormon ideas).

Anyway, Blue Angels has already been suggested (and done by someone else).
Pretty sure Canadian is on the list too (but I kind of like that one).
What else (any profiles greatly appreciated)?

I was also looking at a possible bash of this one into something completely different but I am not that great with the rebuild (pretty sure I could do the "modification part").

Personally I'd go for the Grand Fenwick idea Phil! You can pretty much rest assured no one else has done that yet! The Skyray seems to fit into the timeframe you were looking for as well.

Go for the Double-Play!

P.S. Should you decide to do something else, a natural for the Grand Fenwick Air Force would be an F-84 Thunderjet. If memory serves, the U.S.A.F. had plans to use them as tactical nuclear bombers.

Sentinel Chicken

Unlimited class Reno Air racer! Do it in the some of the more garish colors like Miss America or Dago Red.

I'm planning to do mine in RAN colors.

If you want to go waaay out, I've always thought the Skyray had a bit of a starfighter look to it (not as in the F-104, but as in something flitting around in space shooting lasers and such).

For a more down-to-earth idea, how about...RAN?  Argentine Navy? Aeronavale? Dutch Navy?
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Every thing looks good in IIAF colors

IF you want something a little out of the ordinary, you could go for a Koninklijke Marine (Royal Netherlands Navy) Skyray operating from the HNLMS Karel Doorman in the colours of their Orions (the high gloss should look cool) - you could even name the aircraft The Flying Dutchman.  It would make a suitable replacement for their Sea Furys:

If you wanted to modify it a bit more, you could add a rocket pack (similar to Mirage III) under the rear fuselage.

That Orion is beautiful.

I fully intend to build a Dutch one.
Got the kit and decals ready but just haven't got round to it. I'll call the base/scene "Searching for Carol", as a former pupil of mine was killed while saailing in the North Sea and her boat just disappeared....probably sunk by a tanker.
Orions searched for her.
She was a science graduate and doing research at Cambridge. Great girl.

But as for Skyrays....

The Imperial Japanese Navy flew Mitubishi-Lippisch A13Ms in a Darg Green over Light grey finish, often heavily weathered.
The Luftwaffe (and Vichy French, Bulgarian, Rumanian, Finnish and Estonian Allies) flew thw Lippisch Li-698 in a variety of colours.
The Li-698 was also built by Fiat as the CR.698, and as such served in the Italian forces, Somalia and Albania.

Go for it baby!!

One could convert it to a two-seater, put an ECM pod on the tail and have a USAF/RCAF/RAAF/etc. Sparkray.

I'll also second the motion for something to be flown at Reno.  Perhaps in the complicated markings of the Mustang named Voodoo.   Or that of the Gee Bee racers?

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Think I like the Dutch version.
Also the Reno Racer has possibilities
Still thinking of my Mormon AF.

Anyone want to try a couple profiles to see how these flesh out?
