Popped into The Model Shop in Hull on Thursday, the guy had been to the London Toy Fair on Wednesday & had a little info on Airfix releases & a bunch of their 2007 Catalogues.  First thing is it's largely a re-print of the 2006 issue, I guess that means that they're largely carrying on with those kits for now.  The only new bit was a 16 page spread in the middle, with info on 'new' releases, which are mostly just continuations of what was planned before Humbrol went into administration.  The only other info I got tha wan't in the catalogue was that the Nimrod should be avaible later this year, the Canberras probably not till next year.

1/72 RNLI Severn Class Lifeboat.  Should be available in March, along with a gift set that includes a SAR Sea King.  Some of the profits go to the RNLI.

1/100 & 1/144Mini Kits.  A range of pre-painted kits.  F-117 & F-14 in 1/144, Mustang, Bf-109 & Spitfire in 1/100, 1/100 kits have a stand included.

1/72 Airfield diorama sets.  Four sets:
WWII RAF, includes  Mk.Ia Spitfire, Airfield recovery set RAF Personnel figures & a base styled as an aircraft shelter.
WWII Luftwaffe, includes Bf-109E, Opel Blitz & Pak 40 Gun, Luftwaffe Personnel figures & base which includes defensive positions & tents.
WWII USAF, includes P-51D Mustang, Jeep & trailer, USAF Personnel figures & base with defensive positions & Nissen Hut.
Modern RAF, includes Harrier GR.3, Scorpion Tank, NATO Groundcrew figures & a base styled as a foward air base.

Falklands War 25th Aniversary.  Kits will be available to commerate the conflict, all re-release or 2006 stock.  Includes Shar, Puma, Gazelle, Chinook, Vulcan, Scorpion Tank, HMS Devonshire, Amazon & Leander class (previously available as a Falklands set, I guess the same will apply but it dosen't say), HMS Fearless, Canberra & QEII.  Not all of these kits include Falklands decals, it makes no mention it these will be included or not.

1/72 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight set. Hurricane, Spitfire & Lancaster.   Relaunched with new decals to show the 2007 BBMF liveries, including Lancaster 'Phantom of the Ruhr'.

1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I.  Only real 'new' release, this is the Mk.I that was previously only available as part of the 1/48 70th Aniversary Spitfire set.  Includes a flat canopy, unarmoured windscreen, 2 blade prop, straight mast & decals to make an early spit oob, first injection kit to do so.  Also includes parts & decals for later Mk.Ia & Mk.IIa.

Humbrol Acrylic Paint.  Range of new acrylics in same colours as the enamel range. Quick drying, washable with water, can colour-match & overcoat Humbrol enamels, airbrushable, non-drip lid.

Others: Airfix Website, Classic Club & Team Airfix will be re-opening.

Good to know that things are moving, although it's hard to tell what kind of direction Hornby are taking Airfix in just yet, time will tell I suppose!

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Hmmm, I've been looking for a 1:72 Scorpion. Does anyone know if the Samson (recovery version of the Scorpion) is also available as a kit?

jonesthetank

Hobbes,

I don't think the Samson has ever been released in plastic, but a resin or white metal one might exist.

I also have a set of scale palns and instructions from an old copy of Military Modelling for converting an Airfix Scorpion into a Samson.

Let me know if you want a copy.

Cheers

The Scorpion is availble on it's own & is in production so it'll be easy to get hold of.  It's OO/1:76, like most Airfix '1/72' vehicles but fits in a 1/72 diorama okay.

As Jones mentioned, I don't think theres Samson available & I don't know of any conversion kits for the Airfix Scorpion, even to a Scimitar.  Ace are apparently doing a 1/72 kit of the Scimitar in the near future.

Ace have already done a Scorpion - saw it at the model shop last week.

There is a resin Samson from Cromwell (I think) in 1/76th
It's not an effing  jump jet.

Hmm, might have to get one.  Thought it'd have to be good to justify costing more than 3 times that of the Airfix kit!  Looking forward to the Scimitar too, out of the two I always preferred that one, not quite sure why, something to do with it's 30mm cannon I think.

 thanks simon for the gen.  ^_^

it's nice to see that we will get some humbrol acrylic paint back. they had a fairly
extensive range in the late 1980's to mid 1990's iirc, as i have some humbrol
color cards at home have detail on the available then acrylic range.

that and the rest of your report says to me that humbrol are listening to the views
of the modeller as they launch again. i just hope that some modellers remember
not to slag them off if they don't get exactly what they want. we do very well here
in the UK for available stuff and must not knock too much those businesses that
provide us with many hours of enjoyment.
