Theres a new Humbrol Acrylic range due, plastic flip top lids instead of the old tinlets, hopefully better than their early acrylic range.  I love the old enamels, but I've got to admit, you'd have thought they'd have come up with something better to hold the stuff in by now.  I've had trouble thinning them for washes, but I think it's more down to the cheap white spirit I use.  I've got hold of some actual turps, like rocking-horse poo-poo these days, hopefully it'll give me better results.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The worst paint I've ever used was Testor's Model master Acrylic (the original formula). It would congeal in an unopened bottle within a few months. Or it would not cover at all. Testors quickly removed it from the market.

Still, I prefer acrylic paints (Testor's Acryl, Polly Scale Tamiya or Gunze) ovver enamels. They're a lot easier to clean up, and if you make a mistake, they come off easily without damaging the plastic.

I had one model go through five complete paint/strip/repaint cycles before I got what I wanted.

Paint is still very much a black art. I've got enough experience using Humbrol now that I can get consistently good results. Changing to another kind of paint would mean starting again at the bottom of the learning curve.

hardest paint for me to handle is orange or yellow. can never get these right. the
only pot of orange that ever had a half decent coverage was a DBI glass pot of
'intercity lining red'. damn stuff is drying out now,  <_< and the screwtop lid is
always drying on solid.  <_<

i store my tins of paint upsidedown and they usually are usuable  for years. some
of the older tins of humbrol have QUITE a niff mind when opened! i noticed
this most when opening a tin of hemp from their authentics range.

has anyone tried the new 'humbrella' range of paints made by phoenix precision paints?
there was a very small piece in the latest issue of SAMI about them.

RoG enamels are a bit hit and miss but their new aquacolor acryilics are quite good.

Theres a new Humbrol Acrylic range due

Hi all,
have heard from the LMS that the new Humbrol paint range is totally WATER based, not acryilic, so any drivers of new Mercs will be OK, they'll be able to re do their own paintwork :D
The rumour mill   is also saying that the Humbrol enamels range could be coming to an end.  :dum:

Well I remember Precision Paints Trev (shows his age) and they were great at the time - but that was a long time ago. Also glad I'm not the only one to use the "upside down" trick  :)

As for new ranges then "Railmatch" have started an aircraft range - first up is RAF WWII colours. Have used some of their "railway colours" in the past and they are excellent.

As for Humbrol "Acrylics" I'm told the range will include the old "Authentics" - hopefully to include the military uniform colours (especially the "ancients") couple of really good leathers in that range

As for enamels - yes I think it will become more and more difficult, at least in the EU to manufacture & retail them. As for posting them- some will some won't ?    Apart from aspects like the new EU REACH regulations which will have some effect, although Nev should know more, I think the cost aspect of oil based materials will have a part to play. I prefer acrylics but I can't get some colours I need in them so I'd beter stock up on "White Ensign" while I can. BTW if you havn't tried the latter give them a go they are excellent. Like Xtracolour but dry in half the time at least  :)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
