Excalibur

In 1973 The RAF announced that the Vengence (nicknamed Bombcorde) would be entering service with 9 Squadron. Due to the large cost involved with the Bombcorde only 22 aircraft would be built. 9 Squadrons Vulcans would be distributed throughout the remaining Vulcan groups.

The Vengence primary role was to be long range recon and special strike. With no bomb bay any weapons would be carried externally. Due to experiences the USAF went through, it was decided that nuclear strike would be a secondary role, conventional strike would be it's main focus.

In 1977 the Super Phoenix air to ground missile entered service with the RAF. Essentially twice the size of the Air to Air missile. It was decided that this would become the main weapon of the Bombcorde. The Super Phoenix being able to destroy ships or land targets alike.

Given 9 Squadron was the lone bombcorde user, they quickly developed a flamboyant attitude, applying nose art & a non regualation Dark Grey over light grey colour scheme. They had the biggest & fastest plane in RAF service & it felt good!

In 1982 the Falklands war breaks out & 9 Squadron is sent to Ascension Island. From their a 2 plane detachment is secretly sent to Chile. This 2 plane deatchment is to be on 24 hour standby in case of escalation by Argentina. These 2 planes would be able to attack any target within Argentina quickly. The planes based on Ascension would be on patrol ready to attack the Argentine naval Fleet. Particulary the Carrier De Mayo.

With their Super Phoenix missiles they would be able to attack the fleet at a standoff range never being in danger of return fire. After the Belgrano is sunk by the submarine Trafalgar, Bombcordes are enroute to attack the De MAyo & any other Argentine Ship, when they are called back. The Argentines have had enough of Naval warfare & have recalled their fleet back to port. The British PM not wanting further controversy by sinking ships that are exiting the warzone.

I only have a webcam so these are the best shots I could take, given how big this bugger is.

Nifty backstory there Ex.  Quite an interesting idea having a missile for land or sea attack.  Sorta like the Harpoon and it's SLAM spin off.

Well Done

Thanks Maverick it was a drag of a thing to build! But I'm happy with teh end result, maybe its the colour scheme but it looks like a Soviet bomber to me.

Bombcorde forever!!!

what scale ?
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

Brilliant! Mine was 1/72 scale Heller. I managed to dug a bomb bay (albeit it would have been very difficult in real world...)

Bombcorde is a "must" for member of this forum, along TSR-2 and whatiffed *
F-19.  ;)
