I just recieved this kit in the mail the other day and decided to have a fiddle with some of the parts to get my vac-form fettling skills up to speed.

I opted to start with the parts for the semi-recessed nuke which are included, two halves and four fins. Unfortunately not even a drawing is included for the bomb (as opposed to the aircraft itself which has adequate instructions) so I am a bit stumped by the fin parts supplied.

I have joined the bomb halves but I was wondering if anyone has ideas on the orientation or placement of the fin parts? Two lines are moulded on the lower halves for placement but that is all.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Tony

I found that the fins had to fit diagonally to go under the fuselage. Had to guess at colours.
Happy modelling!

... the centreline store unfortunately is not too clear on this drawing of a developed 2 seat version to GOR.339, ill see iv iv somat in the files that might show it, altho generally the P.1121 carried its 'Red Beard' store on its port wing pylon..

Thanks Glenn, I had worked out the diagonal part, I was just working on which way round the fins went, but your pix help...:)

Cheers Joe, so I am assuming the provided weapon is meant to be a Red Beard?

yes i think so too tony.

oh! don't forget to buy LOTS of filler. you WILL be needing plenty of extra on this
one, especially around the air intake. apart from this its a good kit and i'll be
enjoying building one or two more at some stage.

It is impressive really

some questions
A vacuform?
Scale?
Which manufacturer?
Where can I find it in the internet?

Thanks in advance,
Carlos.
Will die without understanding this world.

Vacuform/vacform... parts are vacuformed onto a sheet of plastic rather than injection mouded.
Scale 1/72nd
who does the P1121?  Maintrack first off, but when he retired the tooling was sold to whirlybird who has it in his current range.
where to get them on the web?  Pass
I always hope for the best.

I think you can find these kits at Blackbird Models as Glenn Ashley announced on ARC that he sells Whirlybird stuff.  Whirlybird has added a number of resin parts to the Maintrack kit BTW.

Mine was the old Maintrack kit - typical, it gathers dust insulating the loft for years, you make it up, then Whirlybird come up with an upgrade!
Happy modelling, whichever version you choose. The beast could terrify an enemy just standing on the runway!

from what ive seen, i wouldnt call it much of an up grade, a few vac bits replaced by resin versions, and the intake section is still a real pig to fit by all accounts.
I always hope for the best.

Niiiice build, Spellbinder99!!!

I love chin intakes!!!  squared, rounded, oval, etc, they are really nice.

This model I didn't know. Is it difficult to build a Vacform?
Does it need internal reinforcement/filling?

Anyway, Interesting and beautiful subject, nicely done!!!

The kit comes with a number of bulkheads in vacuform or equivelent resin bits Rafa,   plus a number of neat white metal parts like the u/c, cockpit bits etc.

You do have to add some extra strips of card for the joints though.

For a guy who can make a model from paper, cardboard (yum!), banyan tree resin, sawdust and spit?

A vac-form will be a real cinch for you, Rafa.  Once we confirm my first parcel reaches you, I'll send you one.

One of the nice things about your bringing this up and Glenn's pics is that it inspires me to go find out about this airplane (completely new to me)!

Thanks.

right then J_H_M!

i expect a P1121 to be duly hacked to bits and something interesting to emerge the
other side,   preferably with maple leaf markings and beer.
