Ok, seems that AMC C-5, KC-10 and C-17s are all painted in the same (boring) grey.
What's the Federal Standard number of this paint ? I need to know that to find the corresponding Humbrol color (it's for my Sonic Cruiser).

I've decided to made my Sonic Cruiser as an AMC fast cargo (or tanker, don't know yet!).

King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Testors actually makes AMC "Proud Gray".........

It's actually *2*6173, but it's more or less the same color as WWII Neutray Gray, only semi-gloss.

VC-37 (Gulfstreams) and VC-40s (737s).

What are the corresponding model paint ?

Need help please!!!

I want to paint my VC-42A Sonic Cruiser as a VIP bird

Well, IIRC the blue used on VIP USAF aircraft is a special colour mixed up expecially at Raymond Loewy's request. I believe it's FS15056, but don't quote me on that.

Do not confuse it with Douglas Blue, only found on the KC-10s when they were first delivered.

Best reference for paint chips on the web is (IMHO) found at Simmers Paintshop (link leads to the FS 10000 series chips).

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

I'll have to keep that in mind for doing a "staff transport" variant of the F-106 based on the info that was published in APR.  I am, though, open to suggestions on the exact marking scheme.

SAM aircraft colors are not in the FS at all.  Not even close to any FS colors.  They originated with Boeing, and thus have BAC color numbers (which, being at work, I don't have at hand).  I've tried for years to come up with model paints to match them, but with no success.  The colors can look quite different in person than how they appear in photos, so be careful "matching" what you see.

I tried (unsuccessfully) to get David Hannant to put the colors into the Xtracolor line some years ago, but no dice.

The best you can do is buy some car colors and mix until you get something you like.

I've tried don Color (as Mossie suggested for the AMC aircrafts) but  the AF1 paint scheme is not a camo.

Thank you very much for the infos! I understand why my google searchs didn't matched  <_<  anything.

Well, seems that I'll have to make an improvisation with my Humbrols cans...  ;)

Another problem is the "United states of america" stencils. Don't know yet how creating them. I have to learn how create decals...

Guess what ? I fear that painting this Sonic Cruiser could become more difficult than building it!!!  :dum:  :dum:  :dum:

J, it seems like your petitioning might have had some effect after all.  Xtracolor do seem to do both colours, X164 & X165.

I came across them when trying to find decals for a potential AF1 whiff last year, but my search came to nothing & the Minicraft AF1 kits are very hard to get hold of in Europe.  Archie, you could ask in the swap shop if someone will either let you have the decals from one of these Minicraft kits or if they'll buy a kit & send it to you, I think they're in the 20-25 Euro range.  I'm sure you could find uses for an airliner kit once you've robbed the decals!

I've found the Mincraft kits you'd need at Hannants Archie, I thought they didn't do them.  Cheaper than I thought too, at around 17 Euros:

Douglas C-118A http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=MC14469
VC-135C Air Force One: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=MC14457
Boeing 757 Air Force Two: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=MC14451

Theres also this special boxed set at a knocked down price, four aircraft for £37.50 (around 50 Euros), at least one should have the decals your after.

They've got some other interesting AF1 whiffs, too.
