I've got plenty of German and Japanese markings in the stash and I don't like either of them (swastikas give me the heeblie-jeeblies and, to me, the Hinomaru is just too recognizable for what ifs).

Some of my recombined designs worry me though, as they seem like they were already used, perhaps by German navy????   Please advise, thanks.

I've chosen "C" as it's the one with the most difference.

"A" looks like a Gay Luftwaffe insignia....nothing wrong with that, but too similar to the Luftwaffe.
"B" is too like the Czech AF allied to Germany
"C" is good.
"D" looks like an accident.

For my AWB "White Supremacist" South African forces, I've used a 3-legged Swastika which looks sufficiently different, sometimes on a black background.

For the RAF "after the coup", I've used the modern RAF 2-colour roundel (small) superimposed on a swastika.

I voted for "C" But I'm partial to "E" see below  ;)

Rotate "E" through 90 degrees and with the sun "rising" that might be a winner!

I thought about that but then it looked like a mushroom cloud

Wow, yeah, that's a great idea, too.  Any others would be welcomed as well.

I've looked at it in all four rotations.  Love your "Germanese" name for it, too.

You could start an entire alternative history with this single marking!

I voted for 'C' but I'd also turn it on an angle so the cross looks like an X. I guess it's my fondness for Spanish Civil War markings.

Now that's scary, I agree with Brian.  Turning "C" 45 degrees would look most excellent.

Mossie

I like the idea of C on it's side.  Would look a bit like the World Navy roundel from Thunderbirds!  E is another nice option, the side by side version as neither Germany or Japan would want to be seen as 'underneath' the other?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I actually didn't mind A, given it would be red not maroon or purple (my vote), but c is good also.  Jeff's suggestion is very nice indeed but I agree with Mossie.  If it's a German/Japanese alliance, I can't see either of them being partial to national symbols on the bottom.  I played with Communist France and Spain a while ago, thinking small Soviet stars (a la Yugoslavia) on the French roundel or modern Spanish one would be appropriate.

"E" with the black always facing towards the aircraft's midline so port and starboard are opposite.

"E" reminds me of the team markings for our Portland Jail Blazer's basket ball team.   Instant trouble and lack of integrity abound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to be clear:
For my own needs, it is not a Japanese/German alliance but a fictional country altogether.    ;)

But I can sure see where that could be a startling alternative history and Jeff's cool combo-insignia would be so very apt.  Imagine an Me-109/Zero hybrid!

As for my own fictional nation of "Chimador,"  I do believe we have a winner.  Thanks Gents for your insight and suggestions.  I think I will go with "C" and accept the 45 degree rotation suggestion (hopefully this "X" won't look too much like a railway crossing sign!)

I think that last one (#C2) is it!  Rotating 'C' 45 degrees makes all the difference.
