How about a later war/post war variant with RR Griffons contraprops, dug out of storage for Vietnam?   An alternative to the turboprops, more power & damn noisy!

You can still get hold of an old Forg/Novo Shack relatively easily for donor parts:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Likely it'll get fitted with the Aquarius Imaginarius gas turbine engine due  the quiet, and thusly a surprising, approach to the enemy.    The Shack engines were considered before I posted but thought they'd be too noisy for a sudden surprising shootout.   I was glad to see the Shackleton mentioned above along with the noise factor (which I think is *really* cool).  B)  B)  B)

The whole thing that spurred the idea was a chat I had with my neighbor who sold us our house.   He's a retired USAF Lt. Col. who flew early Herculese gunships in Vietnam. (AC-130A is what I think he said.)   He had the trigger himself and figures he fired off over 250,000 rounds while over there usually against trucks.

Well that got Ye Olde Feeble Braine sputtered up and I wondered if  the venerable B-17 could have filled that role for a bit in modified form.   After a few years of thinking about it, I bought the kit.       So, come this fall, it'll commence.

I'd love to do a TurboBull variant, but in 1/48 it's just tooooo big!

Thanks again for all the referances and ideas,
Daryl J.
