Snapped up the Airfix 1/72nd Spit Vc the other day, and figured I would hack the nose off and use it to turn my Defiant into a North African tankbuster. That was before I had a look in the box. As some of you may already know the kit comes with a regular nose with lower cowling panels which can be sliced off and replaced with the tropical conversion's chin scoop. So here's the question; The Defiant nose is apparently very inaccurate, but is it close enough that I can simply attach the spare parts from the Spitfire kit without doing major surgery and ruining a perfectly good Spit fuselage? I'm not afraid of building it up a bit with putty if that's possible.

I was just downstairs doing some test fitting and it appears doable. I carved off the little scoop from the Defiant and then bunged the Spitfire scoop up against the underside. Not a perfect fit of course but nothing some putty shouldn't be able to fix. You're right about that turret area though, it's going to be a tough slog to cut that bit out and re-shape the top decking.

On the plus side, there are some nice points to that kit believe it or not. The surface detailing is quite fine, no overdone rivets, and the trailing edges of the wings are razor-sharp. A pity they didn't do to well on the shape.
