Yep, I forgot to include Brian in my original comments, he is in need of any SPATS you have as surplus.  Send all your unwanted SPATS to Brian!  

Another option to consider is just putting the kits in a package and offer it up on e(vil)Bay.  You would be amazed at what some of that stuff actually sells for that was considered junk/unusuable by one person becomes a treasure trove for another.  Case in point here at a local hobby shop that had a parking lot sale with a few modelers placing their own stuff up for sale.  When the event was over one of the modelers was going to dump several boxes of built moddel kits into the garbage.  The shop owner said "no way" and took the stuff from him and put it on eBay with the provision that he would get a percentage of the profits for handling the deal.  So far it has been a win-win situation for both concerned and the guy is getting money for stuff he was going to toss into the garbage.  Like Wooksta says, don't throw away anything, especially now when so many kits are out of production and so damned expensive.

The only things left of those discarded models are a few props and canopies, Monday is garbage day in my section of town so my garbage can is empty and the models are gone for good.
Now I remembered something else I SHOULD have pulled off those models...the tail wheels, oh well, too late now.

Next time I need to thin out my collection I will let you guys know ahead of time.
There are 12 large scale Fw 190s, 7 Bf 109s, 4 He 162s, and several other big scale models that when built will take up lots of shelf space so I might need to decide again next year which models will have to go.

Another option if you don't want to deal with shipping or other hassles when getting rid of old models is to give them to neighborhood kids or thrift stores.

Sure it sounds brutal but ya might just make someone's day

These old models could have been useful to me, too... even if I'm not fond of 1/48; there's still this Scale-o-rama concept I've discovered thanks to this forum, see what I mean ?

Don't feel too bad about junking the models though, I for one have done it and half filled a wheely bin with bust models, right after that someone asked me if i knew anyone with a cheap Matchbox privateer, guess what i had just binned.... yup.  :dum:   though admittedly i did rip off all the old engines, turrets, hardware and undercarts.

All this has got me thinking about when I go off to ''the great hanger in the sky'' what will happen to my models be they good, bad, or ugly.
And my books, unbuilt kits, and related stuff is to me worth a small fortune but other people will consider it trash!  I have so many books on German aircraft in my house that I would be labeled a Nazi, and even the average HS type would likely say ''dude you need help''. :dum:

well, maybe putting something in your will may help there. at my local model club one of the members passed away sudenly. his widow donated his entire stash to the local air museum to be sold off to raise funds for the museum. his model stash was to say the least huge with several thousand kits. thus far her kind donation has purchased an EE Lightning and it looks like there may be sufficient funding from the remaining models for another airframe.

kinda makes you think, don't it.

I won't bother with a will since I live alone and have no family, sorta makes me wonder if I died in my sleep if my remains would ever be discovered and what would total strangers do with my books and kit stash?

I agree, a Viking funeral would be the way to go and would put any questions about what would happen to my hobby stuff to rest.

One of the guys on the HBO program the Sopranos got whacked in a hobby shop in the last episode, you never know when your time is up!

Ha!  When I go, I'm having a viking funeral, with all my possessions being burned with me.  Although given the amount of plastic and resin, it may constitute an environmental disaster...

Pre-filing an environmental impact statement?  Y'know, that really, really is a temptation.
