I've been down at the Tinside Lido with my two little 'uns for the last couple of days and so far we have had

An RAF Puma doing some low passes
A Gazelle landing in the Citadel
Two Apaches doing low passes
A Dakota (RAF roundels, silver/white colour scheme
Type 42 destroyer (D91, HMS Nottingham) heading out to sea

I think there is an Albion class assault ship sitting in Plymouth Sound and today a Type 42 and what looks like a Type 45 came in. They were both too far away to make out the pennant numbers. There were also two Type 23s with a Merlin zipping around between th eships. I was told that Thursday is wargames day, but today was pretty active with the stuff I have already mentions along with two hovercraft, a landing craft and three fast patrol boats.

I had a word with a lifeguard and asked about the ban on cameras in the lido. He said a stills camera was alright but video cameras are banned. The reason is the perverts that may be hanging around..........

I think we are back tomorrow, armed with my Canon EOS350D.

The Type 45 can't have been down there, it is on trials in Scotland at the moment. Daring is working hard at the moment in the Largs area off the Clyde.
Pennant number is D32.
Some of my shots can be found here

PS Note that she is currently called Daring. I found out the other day that she can't be called HMS Daring until she belongs to the Navy. Something I didn't know.

The reason I thought it was a type 45 was the 'stealthy' appearance of the ship. It is raining today so the little horrors don't want to go to the lido. I'll try to have a trip down later to get some numbers. Looking in 'Britisih Warships and Auxillaries' (Steve Bush) I can't see another ship like it. Foreign ship perhaps?

Any ideas.

It may well be one of the newer NATO frigates such as the Spanish E100, the Norwegain version  if the same class, or even German, Dutch, Franch vessels that are all stealthy.

The Thursday War is part of the operational trials and testing to ensure a warship is ready for active duty and the facility is used by many of our NATO allies to bring their crew up to speed as well. (Spent many years on Holiday watching this when it was based at Portland).
