Here's my 1/72 ESCI "Special Cousin" F-117A that's going to become a JSDF F-17 (or A-1 (A for attack) undecided which designation I'll go with).

This thing is one of those mutant F-117 models that came out based only on that really airbrushed F-117 pic that was first revealed to the public.  Good try on the model makers' part, but it was relegated to the insta-whif pile once better pics of the plane were taken.

I'm leaning towards painting the thing in a low-vis scheme similar to one worn experimentally by some F-1's (gunship grey with really understated roundels).

Then again, with a belly that huge, it sorta screams "Japanese Decorative Plane Canvas."  I might go upper surfaces low-vis with some Anime inspired belly art or something.

Modify her outfit into a JASDF uniform and she'd be perfect for belly art!

I gotta vote for "Hello Kitty". It's so quintisentially Japanese and would really make people do a double-take.

Aside from HK, other airplane-worthy Japanese cultural icons include Godzilla, Astroboy, Ultraman, and of course... Pikachu.

Actually, I was thinking Macross based:

Low-Vis:

High Vis:

Or we could go Macross Plus (which so ROCKED!!!!):

Sharon Apple, maybe?

...

Pikachu?  Good gravy, I never thought Pokemon would rear their vile heads here!

...

Maybe something based on the robot mode for the Macross VF-17 (which is based on the F-117):

Yeah, I'm thinking something Macross based for this.  Plus, I've got another one of these in the stash that I could do gear up for a perfectly flat airborne canvas!

If youre feeling REALLY brave, you could always chop up your airplane and attatch it to a stripped down transformers figure. Macross Zero style 1st gen veritech B)

Do you have any pics of that?  Sounds interesting B)

No electronic pics right now, but if you've got World Air Power Journal 23 (Winter 1995), go to the centerfold of the Mitsubishi F-1.  Each regular page before (Pg 60) and page after (Pg 69) has a pic of the low-vis F-1.  Page 58 also has a low-vis pic.
