Blow me, I'm actually getting on with something! Base from the Hasegawa 1/72 88mm Flak Gun.  Trouble is, I've already made a mistake....

And here's a pic of my subject, the Unicraft's 1/72 Zeppelin V-7 Feurball

The mistake I've made is that I assumed the Feurball would fit the gun base without any modification, as there's no indication of what you need to do to it in Unicrafts instructions.  I should have known better & measured up first, but I only realised once I'd stuck it together.  Shouldn't be too much of an effort to split it & add some kind of spacer to take the extra width, you live & learn (I seem to say that a lot these days)!

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Was this a genuine proposal then?  Genuine in the "written on the back of a fag packet" sense?

I like the idea, and really enjoy that you're going make something worthy of your talent, but what I really like is it's got the name Zeppelin in it! "Oh let the Sun beat down upon my face and let the stars fill my dreams..." A little Kashmir never hurt anyone, right? ^_^

Looking forward to see your progress Mossie, all 3 tons of him.. ;)

I'm really not sure Nev, I can't find anything on the net & the only reference I know of is in one of the Reichdreams publications, which I haven't been able to find.  It's development is realted to the FW Treibflugel which was a very real proposal, with some wind tunnel research being done.  Wether the flakmine remained a pure paper proposal because it didn't go past the concept stage or because it was studied very late & events intervened, I don't know.

On the surface of it, it's a fairly simple concept.  You attach a 500lb or 1000lb warhead to a tip powered rotor & release it into the oncoming bomber stream, where it detonates via IR, radar or accoustic fuse.  The main problem I can see is if it decided to come back down again.  I guess it would have been armed by an altimeter, & would probably detonate had it dropped below a pre determined height.  It'd have been a nasty suprise for our bomber boys & if successful it would have at least forced a change of tactics, probaly then making the bombers more vulnerable to fighters.
