I just had a brain-fart looking at my spare parts pile...

Inline-engined Zero! I have a DB 601 from an Aichi Seiran and the cowling looks like it'd match up to a zero's nose almost perfectly. :ar:

Perhaps a frame-less bubble canopy would be in order as well? Since the zero's kit has already had its decals reserved for other projects, I suppose markings would include green surrender-crosses.

^^^^ This sounds cool. Then think in an aft fuselage plug (as in Dora)

QuoteOne thing though.  Given that the Zero was designed to take a radial engine, the fuselage will have a wider cross section than the DB601 (or Japanese eqv.)  Would it not be better to give the Zero a Jumo 213 from a Fw 190?
It would look pretty cool and I'd definitely consider it if I had a Dora nose in the parts bin. Unfortunately, I've got a surplus in disembodied Daimler-Benz engines from various kitbashes and my one spare Jumo is glued and committed to another project.

The Zero also has a teardrop shaped fuselage; adding a fuselage plug in the rear would be pretty hard. Plus the Aichi/Kawasaki/Daimler engine doesnt weigh that much more than the original Sakae, wheras the Jumo is almost a full 800lb heavier than either.

I think that with the lighter and shorter engine, I could get away with not having a fuselage plug and just have an aft-mounted radiator to balance things out, at least visually.

Well, you could also enlarge the vertical tail a bit, keeping the same basic shape, to cope with the larger side area up front.

Just my $0.02.

Question for Lee,  is there a 'pre-build' section so that pictures can be posted of models already built but are NOT legible for this GB but DO fall in this catagory.

I have a couple of models, one finished and the other not finished but as it's packed away in our moving comtainer, I'm not able to complete it.

Cheers...

There's no separate area. If you want to show your model, just create a thread in the 'Piston Perfection Build ' area, and put a line in the first post that says the build isn't eligible.
