Here's a bit of easy whiffery, Spanish Civil war Whif.
The back story for this one is the British government had secret talks with the Spanish leaders and in exchange for military equipment got first hand lessons in actual combat for the RAF 'advisers' sent out to Spain. and also got to test the aircraft in combat. something that would prove instrumental in delaying Hitlers planned action in Poland long enough for the forces of Poland Belgium, France and Great Britain to mobilise and strengthen their armed forces, and for the allied cause to enlist not only Spain but Portugal and Italy to its cause. Hitler not wanting to commit his country to a war that would be almost impossible to win turned his attention directly towards Russia, A country he had already signed a non aggression pact with. In late spring 1940 almost his entire army and air forces mobilised to cross the boarder into Russia. Unfortunately for him the Russian military leaders had been informed about the impending attack and not only where the immense armies of Russia waiting but also forces from the Allied nations. Hitler suffered a crushing defeat and his forces were sent reeling from the onslaught. Irwin Rommel, Together with Rudolf Hess and Albert Speer led a movement to unseat Hitler from power, this led to a bloody coup in which Speer, Mengeler, Goring, and most importantly Hitler were gunned down in a firefight in the Eagles nest, Rommel took the seat of power and sued for peace, this came at a price as the Russians wanted large sections of land from Germany and the boarders were vastly different to those before the war. Thus leading to a VERY different cold war........

All the best.

OOPS, cheers for that. I didn't notice when i re-read it. Cheers for the comments on the model. to be honest it was a quick build I started whilst waiting for paint and filler to dry.

Quick or not, it still looks good. Do you intend to expand on this timeline?

Jetfixer

Not sure yet, but if one of you guys want to pick it up and run with the idea, especially with the different cold war scenario's that are possible, like did the eastern block have more or less territory in Germany?. Did they invade Poland?. what was the technical development at this earlier stage at the end of the war?. ie, no operational jets, no German data to work with etc. also would the Japanese have attacked Pearl knowing the American war effort would be concentrated on one main front instead of two?.
All food for thought.

I like the model

... and the backhistory has some very plausible points.

Cheers for the cudos. It was the alternative history bit I was worried about as this was right from my head taking points I learned from High school history about errr um, yeh, that long ago   :o    .

All the best.

Very nice.  Had you thought of using a two-bladed prop as carried by the early RAF Spitfire Is?  Would make for an interesting comparisons with the early Bf 109s used by the Condor Legion. :D  :D

To be honest I hadn't thought about it as this was one of those built on a whim jobs. the decals had fallen out of the decal drawer and were looking at me. I happened to have a couple of bagged Airfix Spitfire MK1's on my pin board next to me and I thought 'HMMMM, Intresting' . I have thought about swapping the prop but as I havn't got one, nor a flat canopy for it I'm not too bothered. With the British involvement who's to say that the Spanish civil war wouldn't have gone on longer anyway,  ;)

All the best.

Is it just me, or does a Spitfire look gorgeous in any marking whatsoever?    Beauty one JF!

QuoteOh dear, now that's given me another build idea
Isn't that one of the greatest things about this board?!

That's a very nice looking spit!  This might present another opportunity for a small group build, perhaps a "What if WWII was started in Spain, not Poland" sort of thing. . .
