QuoteThis has a certain appeal to it which is growing and growing on me, it certainly looks convincing.  Being a tad picky here but maybe the rear fuselage needed to be a bit longer.

Glad you like it - and you could be right about the fuselage length.  The Hornet for example was rather longer than a Whirlwind (which didn't have Merlins like the Hornet).
As I was keeping with the Whirlwind's dimensions and proportions - but retaining the Spitfire theme - I'd stayed with the actual Spitfire cockpit position, which is further back than the Whirlwind's.  Maybe if I'd moved the cockpit forward (and perhaps using a low-back Spitfire fuselage - although that wouldn't fit the real world timeline and would depart from Supermarine 313 design), that might look 'more right'.  Interestingly, the Supermarine 313 profile in the Shacklady & Morgan Spitfire opus shows the cockpit about 3 feet further forward of the Spitfire/Spartan position.

Hope to have it finished by the weekend, then on to my Piston Perfection GB efforts!  Onwards and Upwards!!! :D  :D

Actually, Overkiler, I've been doodling on something like that for a while, though I admit my inspiration was the mocked-up Twin P-40 (ugly brute, really).  I'm looking at a combination of P-51B and F-82 bits for the project but feel free to do your own interpretation.

I don't know how I missed this, but it is truely inspiring. B) I, too, have been working out some kinks with my Spitfire project. It seems the Spitfire airframe is not easily tamed, :)

The Supermarine 313 drawing can be found on page 645 of 'Spitfire: the History' by eric B Morgan and Edward shacklady

Googling the Type 313 a few minutes ago led me to a fascinating discussion thread at http://www.tgplanes.com/Public/snitz/topic...027&whichpage=2, in which a contributor provided the following stats fro the 313 and also a Type 327 which sounds pretty interesting.

Thanks KB, I'll see if I can find which box I packed my BSP book in, I'd forgotten it was in the book.

Hello Kitnut617, glad t have been of service.  Hopefully this hyperlink will work and take you to some pics of the Types 325 and 327 and a whole thread about these, the 313 and others:
http://www.tgplanes.com/Public/Snitz/topic...Supermarine+313
IMHO the 325 is a dog, but the 327 could be made prettier (but not as graceful as the dH Hornet, which it resembles).  Plenty of whiff material there, I would say!
The 'Meteor' on the final page of that thread is new to me and is almost what I'm doing for the Piston Perfection GB.

Neat, it reminded me I had a link to a similar place:  http://www.flitzerart.com/aircraft.htm

I'd seen the 325 on this site and some other neat ones, I think this has been posted here before.

I like the Meteor but I think I would have gone with my pet fav', the RR exhaust turbine, which would have plumbed the exhaust pipes back into the nacelle, through the turbine, then out the rear.

Cheers......
