Finally started on that little Heller 1/220th scale Transall, same as the one whiffed into a flying boat a couple of years back. Drilled out the portholes this time but the cabin window framing is too delicate to open up the flight deck. Guns are spares from a crappy helicopter kit my son got in a loot bag:

The front gear well has been modified, the kit's arrangement for attaching the nose gear is totally inadequate so the well has had a sheet installed and a hole will be drilled for the gear leg:

But here's another little item I like - take a look at the background. I went to Staples looking for some Bristol board for a background and chanced upon this one, it's white on one side but a nice cloud pattern on the other. It'll never look totally realistic but it does add a certain touch!

Back story might go something like this: France manages to win in Viet Nam in the fifties, and maintains a presence in Southeast Asia. Later in the century pirates become a major problem, along with continuing small insurgencies, and a Transall gunship is developed for both maritime and land operations.

If you like them then head over to your Staples and grab a few, I checked the web site of the company that makes them and they're not listed so they might be discontinued. I'm going to grab some more for sure!

Oh great, now, on top of everything else, I've got "background envy" of you, too!

Looking forward to this one, Ratty.  Am thinking about getting the newest 1:72 kit of the Transall....anyone here have it already?

Very nice! I love the idea of using one of these against pirates.

The Rat

Sorry about the quality of the photos, but if I had used the flash at this range it would have looked like a nuke went off. So they're a bit grainy, meh.

This is the gun from the aforementioned crappy helicopter that will be masquerading as a 40mm Bofors:

Scrap from same chopper imitating a pair of M61s. The hole to the right will be accepting a minigun (or reasonable facsimile):

Nose gear test fitted:

Engine intakes drilled out:

Ditto for the exhaust:

And to give you a better sense of the scale:

Yeah, the eels are still around. :P

A transall with eels? I'll have to buy a new Hungarian/English dictionary!

How about a Hungarian-French dictionary this time?
