Pardon my slight lack of coherence, It's about five in the morning where I am and I'm winding down from a full night of paint fumes and superglued fingers.

Seeking brownie points, I went and "made" a couple christmas presents for some friends of mine. For one girl a Venom Potato-head, the other -her car in miniature... sorta.

So I started with these...

Playskool "Spider-spud"

Fujimi 1/24 Nissan Silvia Early S14 Veilside super mega attack mode catfish car.

And ended up with these.

The venom-potatohead was pretty easy to do, the only things I wish I could've gotten around to doing would be to figure out how to more accurately depict the eyes and add a bit of a tongue :P

The car however, has instilled in me a healthy dislike for Fujimi automobile kits. I am glad that despite the hideous contraption depicted on the box, the kit contained all the parts needed to build a "normal" Nissan Silvia(aka 240SX). I really really hated painting the taillights. Still needs to have decals and some of the smaller bits attatched but it's pretty much done.

^The real thing^ Close 'nuff I hope. One glaring discrepancy is that the headlights and matching fenders are a different shape because they are from a later year vehicle than the rest of the car(the owner went through a lot of trouble to get those headlights, so its not like it'd go unnoticed. The fujimi kit includes three different headlamp lenses, but getting them to fit would be a major PITA just like the real thing. I didn't really feel like major PSR on a car model of all things

Nice work Goober! I think car models would be especially challenging because of the high gloss finishes. You've done yourself proud on these builds and I'm sure your friends will be impressed!

I totally screwed up on the nissan's paintjob. Orange peel, dust, the works.

On the plus side, the paint on the real thing is worse

Nice work, Goob! I love the Venom potato head. And I agree about Fujimi car kits. The Initial D series have awesome box art, but that's about the only reason to buy them. The plastic is hard and brittle, little to no detail in the interior, no engine bay detail at all, and nothing seems to fit like it should. I stick to Tamiya and Revellogram for my cars. If they don't make it, I really don't need a model of it. Sorry for the rant...

Cool gifts!

I really like the Nissan (but I'm biased, it's one of my favorite cars)
