There are some great build ideas out there based on some real world vehicles but lets not forget the Sci fi armor.

O.G.R.E. has already been mentioned.  There is also BOLO and the Hovertanks of Hammer's Slammers.
The Star Wars universe has several armor designs (and a few kits) as does Space 1999.
There was a kit of the tank from TRON (still like that offset cannon idea) and all those Games Workshop 40K kits.  The Pig Tank from Takara makes a great model and I have seen a couple of them done up in WWI schemes or British Desert War markings.

A quick scan over at Starship Modeler shows several other options:
APC from Aliens
Vehicles from Joe 90, Captain Scarlet, etc.
Several scratchbuilt and kits of Hover/Grav Tanks
And all that BattleTech, Gundam, etc stuff that comes on 2+ legs.

One that I have wanted to try was a Battank.  Would Batman convert an existing piece of armor or would it be his own design?  What kind of weapons? Cannon, Laser, something more street friendly?

I also came across a design I had forgotten about while searching for OGRE stuff.  Think that one is moving to the top of my list if I can find the right parts for it.

So, what other "future/past" stuff pops into mind?

Games Workshop have all sorts of vehicles & weapons that span various eras.  Want something historic?  Warhammer or The Lord of the Rings ranges.  The Warhammer 40,000 range has plenty too, want something roughly apporximate to 20th century armour, Space Marines & Imperial Guard.  Hover tanks, near future kind of stuff, Tau & Eldar.  Post Apocalyptic, Orks.  There are several other ranges too & all manner of war walkers.  They also do accessory sprues that you can use to detail models.  Their armour models are approximately 1/48 scale & not the cheapest, but their is quite a choice.

Try Forge World as well.  This is an arm of GW that specialises in more unique resin models.  Some of them are simple conversion kits & not incredibly expensive, whereas others are enormous machines & are hundreds of pounds!

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I've stated building a Bandai 1/144 Zaku figure which will become something similar... but different...
