I'll start here with this, and some of you have probably already seen these,

My idea of Piston Perfection in the real world would be this, I built this a few years ago:
Hawker P.1027  (Tempest Mk.VII [?])

I plan on building the P.1030 too which was similar, but had the radiators in the wing leading edge and a lengthened rear fuselage reminiscent to the Fw.190D extention but a lot neater.

In my What-If world it would look like this:

As I've explained before this would have used a 24 cylinder 'X' configured two-stroke engine based on the Crecy design, some drawing of it appear in the book The Rolls Royce Crecy by David Birch (RR Historical Trust' official historian) which show it as having a large supercharger at the front (connected to the crank shaft), which is then attached to the front of the engine block which is then followed by an exhaust turbine (which is also connected to the crankshaft at th erear end) where the exhaust exits straight out the back.  This configuration makes it look like a jet engine and could be mistaken as one.  In my model it would be mounted right where the jet engine was mounted and connected to the prop by a drive shaft.

I was hoping that I had settled into a new house by now but events have proved otherwise so this build won't get finish in the very near future, and I don't want to unpack the container where everything is store, onlt to repack it again in a few months time.

Here is another Tempest to keep it company, Finnish one is a bit lame just now, both models are Heller/Smer converted with the TSR2joe engine/props/radiator conversion. The Engine block of which I had a hand in developing.
