My hunch is that they remained in standard RAF colours (Dk Earth, Dk Green uppers, yellow/black diagonal stripes underneath for the TT role) with stars and bars applied.  That said, the Lizzie in the Atcham photo doesn't seem to fit that particular bill, unless of course its down to the light and the type of film used.
Check out decal information at http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=MAX4803.  The Linden Hill Imports website has more on the Max Decals sheet, I think.  Found this on 'Wings Pallette', a Russian website: http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/o/73/3/0/1.  Both seem to support my assumption about paint jobs.
Also the 'Warpaint' series book on the Lysander might help.
