I have an online buddy who does custom GI-Joe type action figures who made the mistake of spraying a clear enamel over the soft rubbery type of plastic. Is there any way to get the sticky paint off without damaging the paintjob underneath?

Woo...that's a toughy. The only thing I could suggest would be WD40. Don't know if it would work, but I know it's good for cleaning up stuff !

Best of luck, eh ?!

In the UK there's a product called Fairy Power Spray that's good at getting paint & stuff off.  If it's a painted surface underneath, I'd not bother though.  If it's a coloured plastic, it'll probably be safe.  Maybe test a section first to be sure.

He could very gently use the back of an Xacto blade or similar.  The watchword would be gently though!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Did it cloud or did it flake?

OK, it was suggested he try gently rubbing talcum powder on it then rub it back off and he says it worked like a charm, no more sticky.
