Hopefully this is in the right place.  SLC-08 was pretty fun.  This is my first time doing one of these shows, so it was a learning experience.  Didn't really win anything, except a nice little medal for my 1/144 Berkhut.  And the SEA B-58 generated quite a bit of casual interest.  Anyhow, here's some of the things that caught my interest:

A really nice 1/72 Bear:

A flagon with an upside-down ogival nose.  This one threw me for a loop, and I had to go back to my books to verify that the nose was indeed upside down:

What should've won best aicraft in the show (instead of the F-16 that did).  A most beautifully weathered MiG-17:

Something I expected to see here first--a crazy B-52 whiff:

The table with my B-58 and modified Cutlass:

A great TSR.2:

An incredible model of the USS Salt Lake City--you had to look close to appreciate the level of detail on this thing.  It was mind-boggling:

A wicked cool BSG Viper and launch bay.  This was so cool I almost wet myself:

A great little winter armor dio:

There was a lot more there, and some stuff that was really breathtaking.  HOWEVER, I think if I'd done a nicer job on my Wild Weasel B-58, it would've been a contender.  One thing about the whiffs in a small show like this--They really stand out.

It was a great first experience, and I'm looking forward to the next one, that's for sure.

Some nice stuff there.  I cant help but wonder about the aerodynamics of the SuperBuff, and I know that the rear engines arent going to be all that happy on a steady diet of jet exhaust!

That Viper dio really is great, and I must ask, snooping through your album, what is the deal with the cool pink helo??  I dont remember seeing that before (I do remember the super Cutlass though).
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

noxioux

The pink helo was going to be a digital EMS scheme that didn't quite work out.  The kit is the 72nd Revell, one of a couple that I got from Jschmus for the Secret Santa exchange (which I still feel guilty about--he gave me quite a few gems).  I didn't really dig how it turned out, so it never got a proper intro here.

It was a pretty nice show for us not having one in 12 years.  566 entries.  Not sure how many individual models were on display but there were quit a few extras.

Vendors area was lacking as usual for a SL contest.  Still not sure why that is.  Most of the vendors were individuals getting rid of some of their stash.  Lots of good deals if you were interested in aircraft or books.

With the money the contest generated, the plan is to rent the entire center next year, doubling the space available and adding a snack bar.

I took a little over 600 pics but since my computer died last month, I am trying to put them up on Flickr using my son's other Mac.  Seems I have too many images or something so need to check with him as to other options.  Hopefully I will have these posted by the end of the week.

Noxious, couldn't look at your pics as photobucket is undergoing maintenance right now so will try and check tomorrow.  You may have seen me there.  I was taking pics as the judging started, wearing a navy blue IPMS hat.

I told you not to sweat it.  I needed to clean my closet out a little bit, and I've since found a few gems to replace them (with more on the way).  I'll hopefully be posting some pics of the F-107 shortly, as soon as there's more than a few painted bits to see.  This project has taken a bit more time than I anticipated, if only because I've had to hunt, and hunt, and hunt, just to find a few measly bottles of acrylic model paint.  Most of the hobby stores around here exclusively stock enamel, or the acrylics they do have run to gloss and auto colors.

I'm not sweating it too much, I just have this Libra birthsign thing going on, and it's always nagging me to try and play extra fair.

I was disappointed in the amount of vendor presence there, too.  However, the guys that did show up had some neat kits I'd been wanting to buy.  I didn't pick anything up, because I have way too many unbuilt kits here at the homestead anyhow.

I was really motivated by the big 1/72 Bear.  I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do one of those, and/or the 1/72 Blackjack.

Sorry I, think I missed you at the show Phil, but I wasn't paying a lot of attention either.  I'm planning on doing something for the show in Ogden (?) in September, though.  I may have to put the IPMS meetings on my calendar, as well.

The contest in September is a Regional so hoping we get a better selection of vendors.  Don't know if you are an IPMS member, if so, you should of heard of Dem Brudders.  They are Dick and Bill Engar who had the booth with mainly aircraft and books.  Dick built the Bear, the TSR, the Vulcan and the C-130 as well as several other 72nd Airfix kits (his favorite).  The twin wing Buff was done by another club member and, he didn't care if it would really fly.
Did you get a chance to look at Gavin's stuff in dios and humor.  2 of my fav's by him are the Calypso dio and the Model Contest.  His Farside Caveman set is also brilliant and the derelict mech...

The Salt Lake club has just had a change of venue and dates, now the 2nd Tuesday of each month.  Not sure if the site has been updated yet.

Finally got my pics online.  Had to split them into 2 albums.

A few I liked:

I am not real happy with a bunch of my pics as they seem to be choppy.  Not sure if it was the camera setting, lighting or combination.  Will have to keep practicing with this camera.

I really like that Trans-Ocean flying boat, phil! Looks like there was some excellent work on display.
