Funnily enough, a sale to Japan was seriously discussed: it would have been dependent on selling them to the USN, which would have resulted in a production line for new fuselages having to be set up.....

When it met it's friend "enough". Seriously I think it's a case of something that was acceptable as spoken English moving into the written realm. My formal English classes were to long ago to remember if I'd have been doing lines for using it in an essay. E-mail and now text are responsible for possibly the fastest changes in written English since the 18th Century. I don't say it's either good or bad as language has to change to remain alive.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

At the same time the Falklands kicked off in '82, a delegation from Hawker Siddeley were in Baghdad trying to sell Saddam Hussein the AEW Nimrod. The Iraqis were very interested in the Nimrod AEW.3 and had it gone into service with the RAF, then the Iraqis would have had them too.

Now that would make an interesting model - an Iraqi Nimrod AEW!!!

I was unpacking some of my boxes of books on the weekend and one of the magazines I've kept, is the 1984 RAF Year Book which happened to be at the top of one of the boxes.  Front cover is a rendering of a Nimrod AEW with two Tornado F.3's in the background and inside is a nice cut-away of the aircraft along with a article about it including some colour photos of a real hemp coloured test aircraft.  What's more interesting is on the next page is an advert for Marconi which shows profiles of the Nimrod, a Domini, a Transall, a Hercules and what looks like a 767 but it could be an Airbus (I'm not up on my airliner recognition), all with the same radar fairings as the Nimrod.  The Domini has a scaled down version of the radomes though.  Also shown is a helicopter (which looks very much like a Merlin/Cormorant) and a Short Sherpa which both have a small E-3 looking radar hanging down from the rear ramp on a pylon, it looks like the radome retracts up against the ramp door when taking off or landing.

Now that there's a radome conversion available, I'm thinking about doing one of these other aircraft.

This one Robert?  Martin posted it some time ago in another thread:

Here's another couple of pics scanned from 'From Spitfire to Eurofighter' to add to the discussion:

Note the jet powered Andover especially!
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

There you go Simon  -- that saved me from taking a photo of the page     These are all do-able now!!

And I just happen to have a spare Hawkeye radome left over from my Greyhound conversion I'm in the process of building.  I was thinking of putting it on one of my Vickers Vanguards but I might change my mind now after seeing the Nimrod ----- now just need to find another Nimrod ---
