Well, it is now 8pm MST on 7/4 and I am finally starting, or am I.

Have a couple that I am fiddling with.
1) Lindbergh He-100 (Swiss?)
2) Acadamy F-51D (LDSAF)

I started with the He-100 which is an old kit I picked up cheap.  It has those solid rear windows so first thing was to see if I can carve them out.  First one, so good (pic to follow when I have time to upload them).
But I still haven't really picked what scheme I want to do.  The Swiss version of the Bf-109 is what pops into my head but I don't have any decals (hence the HELP part).  Anyone got a set they don't need and can get to Utah before the week is up?

The Mustang should be a little easier but I am still stuck on what paint scheme to use.  This stems from the thread where the US is divided among several countries with Utah being on its own.  My premise is Utah supported the Allies during WWII and received several F-51s.  Thanks to Anthony, I have the decals but can't decide if I want to stick with a NMF finish or go with a camo scheme.  Maybe something from Southern Utah (think red rocks area) or a Winter camo for up north.
Also, pretty sure I am going with the LDSAF but might get some flak at the local shows.  Maybe DAF, ZAF, or UAF?

Ok, here are some pics.

The He-100 laid out on the bench.  Note essential Mountain Dew on standby.

First rear window cut out.

Mustang in the wings.

Lets open that pesky window on the other side.
First, make some holes with your pin vise.

Don't you hate it when you try to show off how to do stuff and it just goes wrong.  :banghead:
Greg, I may need to borrow some of your Percoset.

Figure it may be easier to fix with the fuselage together so...

That doesn't look too bad.

Pieces all back together.  Think I will let it dry overnight and do some touch up tomorrow.

Thanks guys.
Sanded it out today and looks ok.  used a piece of plastic  to cover the top of the radiator and first coat of interior paint.

No calls on Swiss decals but this little voice keeps saying, you could paint them.  No.  Come on, you could do them.  Go away.  Really, simple shapes...

So, maybe.
But went through the decal bank and I have some Slovak markings that probably would fit.  If I go that way have to decide whether 70/71 uppers or just dark green.  Yellow underwing tips and fuselage band.  That could look good.

Another alternate was Light grey with Israeli markings from 1948

Got to try and get the wing on tonight.  Not the best fit but will fiddle a little to try and avoid putty (my worst part of modeling is PSR).

No modeling done yesterday.  Need to spray some primer so I can see how much PSR needs to be done.
Did pull out a magazine with a good modeling articale on the Swiss 109s.  Other than the aircraft number with that funky "J" I just might be able to pull off the Swiss version.
Course, the Slavek one would look cool and the Soviets got several of the prototypes so Soviet White with the red upper wings or even North Korean, 1950...

Maybe I need a quick poll?
