Might be teaching my granny to suck eggs here, but what the hell....

I recently cocked up the paint on the brass wings of my Triskelion model for the Flying Sorcery GB. I decided to strip the stuff (several layers of silver and white rattle-can Holts acrylic) with Modelstrip, as sold in one LHS. Strictly speaking, I didn't need this for brass, but they had plastic engine pods superglued to the ends as well, which also needed stripping.

When I peeled the stuff off, the brass looked like this:

Pretty funky effect, yes? Unfortunately, I had to spray it all white again, but strikes me as an interesting finish for steampunk modelling. I presume it's due to the acids in the Modelstrip, which bubbled the paint, leaving the spotty pattern underneath. It's quite hard too: it doesn't rub off and I think it would take a lot of sanding to remove it.

Is that brass shim, is it photoetch....?    What is modelstrip?

That's very interesting.

I can see a night attack aircraft with that kind of finish. It might take a bit of doing, though...

I'll copy the photos for future reference.

Ta for the inspiration.
Whatever.

Very cool.  Would make a nice SF alien camo scheme.  Now, if only they made some models in BRASS!   This look will probably wind up on STS's latest RoT Navy Plane!

It's thin brass sheet from KM - can't recall the thickness, but it's pretty thin.

This is Modelstrip: http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/Modelstrip-productx314229.html
