"The Jesus Factor"

With the war coming to a close and the Allies invention of 'The Bomb', the end seemed near, but............there was a problem with the 'dropping' of the said weapon. It worked, detonated from the tower, but would not work, if dropped from the air, hence, 'The Jesus Factor'.
The USAAF had the right equipment, the B-29, but all drop tests failed. It was decided to use a modified B-29 as a Mistle Project, and a B-25 as the mother ship. Knowing the 'Bomb' would be attacked, extra rear R/C guns were mounted along the sides and in the tail. The 'Bomb', mounted in the forward bomb bay with the extra long nose detinator.
The idea was to launch the B-29 over the coastline, at an altitude of 25,000 feet, with the B-25 gaining as much altitude as possible before the drop.
Seen here with one of it's escorts, P-47, somewhere in the south Pacific, August 1945.

*Chuckle*  That wouldn't happen to have been prompted by the novel The Jesus Factor that came out some 30 years ago, now would it?

Thanks Lyn for this incredible model gallery... On your diorama, it is funny to see little characters, I did not know there was some little human beings at 1/144th scale...

Toad,
yes I took the idea from the book. I can't remember the author, but it sure did impress me.
And, to Tophe, the figures are 'N' Gauge railway models, scaled at around 1/144~1/160th. Made by a German company, Priecer or Priscer, or something like that. The first set I bought were OO/HO Luftwaffe aircrews and groundcrews, but their 'N' gauge figures are all civilian. (I use them for Airliner diorama's)

Tophe, if you're ever in need of small scale people, there is a Canadian firm called Model Builders Supply which carries a full line of human figures for architectural modeling.

Last time I checked, they had everything from 1:24 down through 1:300 or smaller.

The RAF boys in the far east used to say that the easy way to dodge flak in a P-47 was to fly streight thou it and dance around the cockpit.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

It also had the lowest loss rate of any RAF combat aircraft during the entire war.

It's coming, it's coming!  Trying to get decals on five planes at the same time over here.  Man, I'm so confused----talk about your "What If's."  This gaggle of aircraft is bound to have accidental cross-overs of markings, I can just feel it!
