Shouldn't be a problem - common as muck, Spitfires.....

Okay, well I have a Heller Mk.XVI earmarked for the Cavalier treatment, i.e. a big, ugly turboprop conversion, tip tanks and modern weapons, as a Patchwork World COIN job. Might even do it as a Cheshire Militia one in a "dogfight double" with a Reddish Revolutionary Cessna (or some such) over Stockport........ ;D

Rollmodels shipped an Aeroclub Spitfire correction fuselage for the Hasegawa kit and it's very tempting to utilize it for a whiff project.    Model building for yours truely will likely now be suspended at least until November if not January but Spitfires deserve a go at this, GB or not.

Daryl J. thinking of a USMC Spitfire PR.MkIX in overall GSB for Korea or overall Hemp for something really out of it's time element.

OK, who makes the best Mk I that doesn't cost too much?

Airfix, in 1/72.  Raised panel lines & in best Airfix tradition requires a bit of work, but it's a nice kit.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

ive got the old heller kit, and i must say, it isnt all that bad

I was thinking the Airfix one.  Think I may have an old Hasagawa one (or most of it) in the stash but wanted something a little nicer.

If your looking for a simple build, the Tamiya kit is probably the best.  I haven't built it, but the fit & detail is supposed to be very good & the shape good enough.  It'll cost you about £8 though, compared to £4 for the Airfix kit.

Does anyone do a plastic late-model Spitfire? I'm talking F.22 or thereabouts, or even a Spiteful/Seafang. I don't fancy splashing £30 on a resin one (though the CzechMaster ones look gorgeous) - I'm not good enough to do it justice.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Testors has a Mk22 in their "easy kit line." big raised rivets, no cockpit interior, undercarriage molded up.

Academy does an XIV that seems to be an okay building kit. You might be able to get a nice bubble canopy spit if you kitbash both kits together.

Spotted this resin F.22 for £14 at Hannants, by 'Airkit'.  Apparently has no decals.

Xtrakit are due a Seafire F.46 & Special Hobby a Seafire F.47.  As far as the Spiteful & Seafang go, the only ones I know of are the Magna & CMR kits, all over £20.

Pegasus does a early F.14 Spiteful that didn't cost me too much. The plastic ain't too bad but the canopy needs replacement if you plan on adding a cockpit and the prop/undercarriage is made up in metal bits. I'm fixing mine up with parts from an academy XIV

How feasible is it to make a Spiteful/Seafang by putting Attacker wings (Frog/Novo kit can be found easily) on a late Spit fuselage?
