Hmm, I might be mad enough to go for this.   :dum:     The more I think about it the more I like the idea!

I've been thinking about the Rotodyne profile I knocked up, it seems like the perfect platform.  Trouble is, apart from the prototype, it never existed!  Same with modifying an existing type into a gyrodyne.

It would be easy to invent a back story in which the Rotodyne existed.  I guess if the Spruce Goose is in, it would take less imagination to put up a Rotodyne, this okay Gary?
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Bump!!!

I might as well tell everyone what my idea was for this GB - A stretched (1m fuselage plug), zero-lifed, re-engined (with turbo-props (like pics below)) DHC-4 Caribou with retardant tanks and spray/drop system out the back ramp.  The idea being that whilst it isn't fast, it could land on just about any short strip or road and be reloaded with water/retardant and therefore conduct just as many firebombing sorties as faster aircraft that might have to fly further to be reloaded.  It would also be able to carry fire-jumpers if need be.

Bump!!!

This proposed group build might be of some interest to those of you that have commented in the proposed Police/Fire Department Group Build especially if you are wanting to build a fire fighting aircraft.

I'd like to suggest this GB as a tribute to Gary who sadly passed on recentley.  He originated this GB & had a particular interest in firefighting aircraft.

If we don't get this set up as a GB for next year I am thinking there will be a special Whiffie category for the best Firebomber for 2011.
And no, this has nothing to do with the FireKing I have planned but it is good incentive.
