This was originally built for the P-40 Group Build back in August 2007. However, it was rushed to meet the GB deadline and I've never been really happy with it - the canopy frames weren't finished, some small parts were left off and the overall paint finish seemed a bit uneven.

Well, it's taken about 14 months, but I've eventually got round to adding the missing parts, fixing the painting flaws and applying another coat of varnish. It may not look that different in the photos, but I'm much happier with it (the kit is the 1/72 Academy P-40N).

Incidentally, I put it on to the Soviet Aircraft SIG table at Telford and no-one picked up on its being a whiff. But it is -  the USSR carried out extensive tests using ramjets and pulsejets as boosters on a wide variety of piston engined aircraft ranging from the I-152 biplane fighter to the B-25 Mitchell and underwing pulsejets were tested on the La-7 and La-9 fighters. But not on their lend-lease P-40s.

But they could have been. And like I said before, to a country which put a Spitfire on to a Cruiser catapult, mounted jet engines above the fuselage of a B-25 and below the fuselage of a B-29, planned to mount I-152 fighters on the wing of a PBY and turned an Li-2 (C-47) into a giant helicopter, adding pulsejets to a P-40 would be small beer - hardly worth getting the orders in triplicate from the Kremlin, really - - -

Very realistic and very believable.  I can see how a lot of people wouldn't recognize it as a WHIFF.

Looks good.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.
