Back History:

After the fall of the berlin wall, the German Luftwaffe was one again. with this, the luftwaffe doubled in force and number. they obtained a number of Ex-DDR military hardware such as Mig-21, Mig-29, SU-22 and Mi-24's.
although the german Luftwaffe continued operations with the Fulcrum, there was no use in the post-soviet LW for the old Mig-21. the ministery of defence has no idea what to do with the aircraft, they were to inferiour to the Mig-29 or the Tonado and they were kinda obsolete, just like the F-104 of the west-german AF. so 30 fishbeds were stored awaiting there faith.

after the cold war ended and the soviet union collapsed, smaller ex-soviet nations were starting wars for independence and things were getting hot in the Persian Gulf and the Balkan. most of these nations flew older ex-soviet aircraft such as the Mig-21 and Mig-23. to deal with the threat, pilots need to be trained by defeating similar aircraft in dogfights. the Luftwaffe decided to restore a number of ex-DDR Mig-21's back to flying condition and use them as agressors.

in 1994, the first restored Mig-21 was back flying, and 17 others soon followed. they were painted up in a similar camoflage scheme as the retired F-104's and recieved Dayglo noses and wingtips, to improve visibility and identification as agressors.

Works for me! Looks good, and it's a plausible idea. IIRC the ex-DDR Mig-29s were used quite extensively for training, so it makes a lot of sense.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Good idea.  The Mig looks good in that camo.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.
