Ahhh the ebulliant Lord Michael of McEvoy, one of the founding fathers of What Iffing, and one of the nicest guys in the hobby. To quote my partner-in-crime Dork, "The Gentleman Farmer of Modelling"

Met him a few times now & I couldn't imagine anyone less grumpy!  Lovely fellow.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Oh yes "uncle mike" our very own spokesman and good will ambasador.

He had the pick of the SIGs to hang out with when he retired from his tail peice colum in scale aircraft modeling. And he chose our mad bunch to hang out with, as in his words we fit with his free thinking style to his modeling.
To say that it is an honor to have him with us is an understatement. As the other lads have pointed out already, he is very highly regarded by those of us in the UK.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

I did an image search for the Sukhoi PAK-FA/T-50, and ran across a whiff model of one, along with a large number of other whiffs:

There's some real world stuff at the top, and sprinkled amidst the rest, but there are a LOT of whiffs.  I ask if this is one of our people because I see Kit's Meteor PR19 and the article mentions Martin Higgs.

GOM aka Mike McEvoy, is not a member of this forum.
He is a member of IPMS UK, and has become an honoury member of the What If SIG.
A great modeler and believer in Whiffing.
He used to fly Hunters in the RAF, then became a civil Air Traffic Controller (where I first met him) and is now retired from paid employment.
Most of the big shows he can be found at the What If SIG stand.

Alle kunst ist umsunst wenn ein engel auf das zundloch brunzt!!

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

Quite a few of us on here have had a hand in a number of Mikes whiffs. As Mike says we fit his style of modelling....Free thinking.

Yeap i actually created a 2nd set of Hawker P1214 (X-wing) componenets for Mike so he could assemble one as a thanks for all the support in his old Tailpiece section for the TSR2 campaign and What-if Modelling. (He had mentioned it was one of his wish list models in one of his articles so we thought we should treat him  ;D)

Mike was one of the first, if not THE first Whiff Modeller in the UK, at least as far as IPMS appearances is concerned.

Back in the 70s Whiffing was severely frowned on by 'them', and you were likely to be taken to one side and 'words would be had' if you showed up with something as radical as a Whiff. I did my RAF F-104K Starfighter from the Matchbox kit, as recounted elsewhere here, and fought 'them' by taking it to the '72 (I think...) Plastikfest at IPMS Farnborough, and Mike showed up with a bizarre device that started off as a Miles M20 I think, but had a twin tail and a MONSTER engine too. Naturally we gravitated together and decided to show both of them in an area of their own. The ' IPMS Powers that Be' gave up and Whiffs became almost expected after that. <g>

The fact that both Mike and I were on the IPMS Comittee at the time may have had something to do with it, but he and I have been close friends ever since. One great guy for sure.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit
