Anyone up for building the P.1121 or derived beasties?

Well, if anyone wants to build the P.1121 be it scratchbuilt or from the vacform kit I would be very interested in a few pics and a brief writeup to go in a short modelling section of my ever-growing P.1121 book. I can provide access to photos and drawings to increase accuracy.

If the maintrack kit isn't sufficiently challenging I can provide drawings for a number of variants including various two seat strike derivatives, a twin side-by-side seat naval version, and a Mach 3.0 steel wing fighter version for anyone brave enough to attempt them

Ahah, THAT'S the book you're talking aout!

Sounds a very interesting exercise for sure. I have the Maintrack kit, and with all those of the genre it's superbly designed and moulded, and I don't anticipate too many difficulties in building it, unless any previous builder can say otherwise perhaps?

I hadn't even thought about doing other versions I must admit, the 'Hurricane II' being almost spoof enough in its own right. I just read up on its entry in Tony Buttler's book but there's only a slight mention of two seaters of any sort, let alone a side by side one. Hunter canopy required perhaps?

iv a 1/72 model iv been working on which id been intending to mould up in resin based upon the Maintrack vacuform kit (modified to mockup/prototype configuration) ill dust it off and see what i can do, the fuselage is complete, altho now that a lot more information has come to light due to your extensive researches, ill have to go back over it adding detail where required

I have the Whirlybird (ex-Maintrack) 1/72 vac kit of it and I'd be interested in some photos of it Overscan.  I've got a couple already which my friend Steve Gardner (britjet here) sent me of the bits that are stored away.

There's definately been a few done before, Van883 & Glenn Gibertson are two at least that have finished a kit & I'm sure I've seen at least one do the rounds with the SIG with others in progress.

If there was a resin kit available I might be willing to tackle one, but I don't think I've got the balls for a vacform!

They aren't that bad, really. 

Mind you, I started off on some grotty Airmodels that were never going to look like the real thing even if I built them perfectly. Doing a Maintrack as your first vacform would probably NOT be a good idea to my mind, as if you messed it up all the lovely moulding and detail would go down the pan.

Some of the Rareplanes would be a good start perhaps. Many of them, maybe all of them, had their masters done by Gordon Stevens, the master of vacforms. I may be wrong but the Maintrack stuff looks like Gordon's work too and when he did something the bits fitted! Most of the Rareplane vacforms have been superceded by injection kits now, but the Maintrack offerings are mostly well off the wall and so it would be better to save them until later in your vacform career.
