The "Stand-ard" GB

A few people (Nils, Vostoc7, apologies to any I've forgotten) have made interesting models using Airfix display stands as a basis, so why not have a mini-GB for it?

Short, simple GB, possibly lasting only one or two weeks: make a model of any subject, using a display stand from any kit (not neccessarily Airfix). The only rule is that the display stand must form the major component of the model, so a B-52 with a display-stand missile/drone is out, or at least only the missile would be eligible.

Maybe take this a step further & allow diorama bases, that we've seen from HOG, cthulu77, John Howling Mouse, B787 & matrixone to name but a few.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Not sure I follow you there . Those are home-made dioramas: I mean vehicles etc made from the ready-made display stands that used to come with most models, i.e the u-shaped Airfix one, the M-shaped Matchbox one with the ball-joint on top, etc....

The Matchbox diorama bases that used to come with their AFV kits present an interesting dilema though....

I was just taking the use of 'stands' & 'exhibiton' a little further.  Limiting it to commercially available in-flight stands might not arouse too much interest, there's no reason you can't use them in most GB's.  Opens it up a bit, allows stuff other than aircraft too.

Here's something I did a while back using a display stand. I call it the Diamondback.

P.S. I have some round and tear-drop shaped stands that seem perfect for Sci-Fi projects.

OHHHHH!!! :slaps head: Get it now...... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Sorry, thought you meant displaying the model on the stand, not the stand being the model!  Even when you explained it..... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Thank God it's the weekend.....  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

In my defence, we've got my brother & his kids tearing the walls down & I've been working longer hours!

Wibble.

Now that's something else you could do with a display stand - probably have to be a dogfight-double one though....

Funnily enough, Airfix has recentley released it's current Dogfight Double stand as a seperate item.  There's also a stand that'll take five aircraft.  They're quite interesting shapes, might be useful.
