Following the US Air Force and Army's decision to commission the North American Rockwell OV-10 Bronco over Convair's Model 48 Charger, General Dynamics looked to Europe to continue the development of there COIN aircraft. The Charger, which had made nearly 200 flights in the mid 60's, could out perform its rival, the Bronco, but it wasn't until the 1970's that Shorts of Belfast took up the offer of building the Charger under licence.

Of course, some small changes were made, wing tip were added and the cockpit was converted to right hand drive..  The British Army took delivery of 50 late in 1978 with the intention of using them as border control in Ulster. 30 years later the Stirrup is still flying ... somewhere.

Pure Magic.
Can I just ask, 1/ What scale?, and, 2/ What kit was the basis?

.....and 3/ What you doing next?

Alle kunst ist umsunst wenn ein engel auf das zundloch brunzt!!

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

The kit is 1/72nd Scale and it is the Miku Resin Convair Charger plus half a tube of putty. Wing tanks are from the spares box, the cannon blisters are one half each of a bomb from the Airfix Hawk plus a piece of stretched sprue. Cockpit is virtually scratch built.

What's next ? ..... Continuing my 'What if they had lo-vis in the 50's'  http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,23108.msg334093.html#msg334093 theme I am close to finishing a Suez Sea Venom and Meteor. I have also nearly finished a two seat F-86 Sabre just not sure whether to lo-vis it a la Suez or enter it into the Trainers with Teeth. If I choose the latter then I'll need to take it to the dentist to get something fitted !

Thanks for your interest JimB. It's not magic, its Whiffery !

Like with Tophe, this one managed to escape my radar as well.  A pity, since it looks quite cool!

Overall, the Convair Charger looks a bit like an egg version of the Bronco, doesn't it?  ;D
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

It's too cute to be a warplane..... that's meant as a compliment, btw !

Nice one Bungle, didn't known anyone did a kit of the Charger.
