I've posted a couple of early 20th century battleship articles at:

http://www.dataviewbooks.com/naval.html

the first (1907) deals with the Japanese Satsuma which would have beaten Dreadnought as the first all-big gun ship had she been finished to the original design - there is a photo of the ship's launching.

The second is a 1918-vintaqe cross-section plan for a US 12-inch turret - there was no data on any specific class.

Thanks for those!

The original article proposing a single-caliber battleship was in Jane's in 1903 by an Italian Admiral Cuniberti. The concept was a natural evolution as secondary batteries grew ever closer in size to the main guns.

The USN's South Dakota and Michigan could have preceded Dreadnought as well.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

I did not know that! That bears some further research, thanks!
