This next aircraft, in my S.H.A.D.O. arsenal, is the long range, Mach 5 capable F-407 Chimera. This aircraft's primary role is long range patrol, long range interception, and atmospheric escort of moon base transports. The aircraft is armed with modified hypersonic Aim-54's and upgraded Amraam's can also be fitted. To reach its maximum speed of Mach 5, the aircraft is fitted with a hybrid air breathing jet/rocket motor, this motor is situated on the rear upper fuselage. This motor is a very temperamental piece of equipment, thus the motor can be ejected if it becomes unstable.

The base for this aircraft is the Hobbyc**p CF-105 in 1/72nd scale. The tail fin has been removed and SR-71 copied tail fins placed on the wings, this is so the auxiliary motor could be fitted there. I was going to fit a couple of the B-1B exhaust cans onto a modded tail end but the ones I got are absolutely pants! So I just went with sticking some other jet nozzles into the original engine exhausts. The missiles are going to be carried on F-14 Aim-54   launchers, of which will be 4 of. If I put the AMRAAM's on it they will be fitted to the sides of the fuselage, flush mounted.
This thing has annoyed me no end as to how and what to use for the auxiliary engine, as nothing seemed to work or look right.
So I have modded an engine pod from a B-58, and put a slightly bigger exhaust nozzle on it. I think I will paint this one in the matt est of black, and possibly a very dark grey camo scheme running through it.
I will do some pics when it is starting to look something like.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hmm :banghead:
I was going to do some work in progress pics today, but the weather has gone nasty....AGAIN  :banghead:
I would do some pics of it indoors, but the light is poor, and the plane is painted all over matt black, so you won't be able to see much........bugger!
If the weather clears over the weekend, I will take her outside and do some pics as she is nearly finished now.
Cheers,
Chris.

Very nicely done - the pod looks good.  Love the way you tweaked the Phoenixes with underside intakes.

Thanks for the comments guys,
For my next build, I am swapping wings for tracks and doing a couple of vehicles for SHADO instead. Yet again I will be using the trusty quick build ISU 122 by Italeri, then I am going to convert Styr S tank also.
Cheers,
Chris.
