Here is my converted Italeri M113 air defence variant, I got the kit of Nick a while back, and the conversion work went pretty painlessly, well for me  but maybe not the kit
The vehicle is part of my Marine  task force.
Chris.

Cheers,

The missiles are a modified version of the sea sparrow, in(whiff) tests, they proved more suitable for this application than the air launched version.
The vehicle came about because the Marines were in need of a dedicated  air defence system, that was highly mobile and based on a current vehicle to keep the cost down.
The army had just retired a large number of its M113 APC's to be replaced with the stryker. Some of the better vehicles were taken to a contractor to be converted to the ADV version above. The radar unit is based on the radars used in point defence systems on US Navy warships, and gives sufficient coverage, and is immune to all known Russian/soviet made counter measures.
The vehicle was built well on contracted time and as it is based on current available equipment and recycled vehicles, the cost was kept down.
The modifications include installing a mezzanine type lightweight flooring with a storage space beneath, to house tools and fins for the 2 reload missiles that are kept in the tubes on the sides of the vehicle. The vehicle has a 2 man crew, but does need additional man power to do a reload.
The sparrow missile was chosen so as to give a better range of protection than the stingers used on the LAV-25 ADV and the Hummer avenger, also the missile tracking radar is being upgraded to track and destroy stand off and cruise missiles.
Cheers,
Chris.
