Hmm!, my PAK-20 book says the first plastic models began appearing in the mid-30's ------ 

I think that depends on your, and their, definition of 'plastic'.

The original FROG Penguin kits, which I think they are talking about, were made of cellulose acetate rather than the polystyrene we know and love these days. They first came out in 1936, which does pre-date me, but not by much......

My intended cut-off date is 1970 (mostly because the oldest Revell model I've built had 'copyright 1970' on the box - the tool was probably older, but I do not know.
