This one is only a mild What-If. Mostly just markings that don't exist. The kit is the HobbyBoss 1/72 Wildcat. I love HobbyBoss for quick builds! Anyhow, here's a few pics.  ;D

Man, you do fantastic work!  The finish is so realistic.  Someday, when I grow up, I'm going to be able to paint that well!
Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.

Thats a perfect example of what can be achieved with Hobbyboss kits - stunner
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Man, I wish I could model like that!! Outstanding work on an aircraft that has my respect and admiration for job that it did during the war. BRAVO ZULU!!
Look behind you!

Nice Wildcat.  The finish is very realistic.  I have to agree with you on those HB kits.  I did one of their Spitfire MkVb a couple months ago and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Nice one, BlackOps.

I hope to do something similar--an F4F-3 from the USS Enterprise (my dad's ship) in early-war livery with the red dot in the center of the roundel. I have a picture, taken from the ship's island looking down on the flight deck, that shows an F4F-3 with a small roundel "peeking out from under" an overlaid, "oversized" roundel (always liked that as a potential subject). I am going to put on the "Fighting 6" squadron emblem even though those colorful squadron markings had disappeared when the camo went on. Just plain "It's MY feckin' model" stuff!

If you'll permit me a small suggestion on such a nicely-finished model: Take a fine brush and "blacken in" the oil cooler scoops on the underside, as shown below.
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Sequoia, thanks for that, I had wondered about that, then I got side tracked when I was looking for reference pics and just completely forgot about it  At least it's an easy fix :)

I dont's think I've ever seen a Wildcat represented better, Mr Ops! You totally nailed the color scheme.

Now you need to do one in Aeronavale markings. Let me know if you need decals.

Here is one of an F4F-3 from Enterprise (though in VF3 markings?)

Also included is that "peeking out from under" roundel picture (not too clear, but you can see it).

And I would agree heartily that you nailed the camo color!

Great reference pics! I too think it's kind of cool to see the old stars peeking out from under the new ones.
