I'm pretty sure the aircrew are wearing the Sidcot Suit, which was developed for keeping aircrew warm at high altitude & low temperatures.  It would have been used regularly on Atlantic patrols in the winter.

The flight masks would have been worn often as the crew radios were contained within them, they had to put them on to communicate.  I'm pretty sure the Catalina was fitted up for Oxygen too.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

The Soviets also used Catalinas during the war, I believe they even built them under license. There is a wonderful article on this in an old modeling magazine I have, I can scan it if anyone is interested. Great work so far Greg, it'll be neat to see this in another one of your water dioramas.

Model Aircraft Monthly ran a series of articles on Soviet Catalina's quite recently
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Very intriguing, Greg.  When I was a kid, there was an airbase not too far from here where a half dozen Cansoes were stationed.  I think they were water-bombers.
It sort of freaked me out to see them on solid land as the only Catalinas I had known about up until then were strictly floatplanes!

Styrene in my blood and an impressive void in my cranium.
