Thanks for the clarification over basswood/lime etc. I've known model boat people use lime wood for hull moulding masters so that makes some sort of sense.

Wahtever, I'm lousy at anything close to carpentry. Right now I've got to put a new front door on the house, there may be lot's of blood, swearing, and a divorce in the offing.

Sounds like my dad. He made some decent things in the workshop, but the machinery wasn't loud enough to bleep out the "language" that usually came out of there.
