The other day I was coming back from lunch, and heard an aircraft sound unlike any other.  Our office is a few miles from the approach end of Runway 25 at ORL.  The sound was quite bizzare, and in a moment, a twin engine aircraft with pusher props and a canard came into view.  It was a Piaggio Avanti (could not have been anything else).  I had never seen one before, and immediately googled it.  One characteristic was a unique sound.   After reading about it, the Avanti seems like quite a plane.

I watched one of those do touch-and-gos at CLT a couple of years ago.  Those turboprops have a very distinctive sound.

I was at the Airdrie Airshow (just north of Calgary) a few weeks ago and there was one on static display, I took a number of photos of it as I want to do the scheme it had.

I do love those little Avanti's!!! such an amazing space age design. But then I always had a fondness for the Beech Starship as well.

Love both the Avanti and the Starship.  If the wood models on eBay weren't so expensive, I've got a few Whif ideas for both.

A few years ago, I remember seeing an Avanti climb out of Detroit City Airport.  Watched it out my sunroof as it climbed away, definitely a unique sound to it.

Sanger make vacuforms of both in 1/72 Anthony (got one of each) and the mouldings are very nice, they look a little like Rareplane stuff in style.  Lots of very nice white metal detail parts too but no decals. GBP 13.00 each according to their website:

Oh, cool!  Thanks for the heads up!  Only Avanti I can find online is a resin kit from Italy that's a wee bit on the expensive side.

I'd love for Italeri to pull their fingers out and give us one of these beauties in injection form. Considering the hurry the seem to be in to give us and injection molded AMX, I'm not holding my breath for an Avanti either. :banghead:

As for the above mentioned Sanger kit. I've heard it is good, but represents a prototype rather than production configuration, so research materials will be a must.

In one of the offices at work there is a large wooden desktop model of a Starship in the old USAir colors...I think about that model on those rare occasions when I work late and the training center is almost empty...    ;D
So I got that going for me...which is nice....
