North American All Weather Super Fury Proposal of 1954

Was it to be called the FJ-5 or F2J-1?

Kendra, I believe the FJ-5 was the navalised F-107.  Reddfoxx from here gave me this link on the type.

Given the convoluted nature of USN designations pre-63, I'd say F2J is a good guess.

This design preceded the navalized F-107 (which dates from 1955) and was also referred to as the "FJ-5" by North American in the proposal brochure.

In working on the back-story for my navalized F-107, I had NAA using FJ-5 for their proposal, but BuAir decided that the new aircraft had nothing in common with the previous FJ series, and insisted on F2J.  As this aircraft was supposed to be equivalent to the F8U/F-8 Crusader, I used "F-7" as the post-1962 designation.
