This goes to Xuntong for there TU-2 series of kits. Three boxings with decals, instructions and box art muddled up between them. The TU-2T boxart a/c doesn't feature on the decal sheet, the TU-2S boxart a/c is in the latter boxing, most of the decal choices aren't for the variant in the box, there is no directions as to which decal choice gets which canopy, propellers etc etc etc.

The kit itself is absolutely superb and I have many references to hand but anyone else would have to do some SERIOUS Googling or lay out the clover for photographic publications.....be varned ;).

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

No. There are some aircraft that are to my eyes absolute beauty and perfection. Skyraider, Corsair, Tu-2 etc and I find it very hard to hack into them. This one will be reality, along with the DH Hornet (it looks like a Hornet, OK) and a XF5F I've got knocking about somewhere.

The problem now is with the demise of WEM paints getting the paint mix right for USSR colours.

Anyone used AKAN paints?

Yup. I'm glad I stocked up at Telford.

Not used AKAN but read some reasonable things about them.

Quite a good review here http://sovietwarplanes.com/board/index.php?topic=832.0

I was just going to join the queue of complaining about the instructions for this old MR.3 Shackleton re: window placement. Then I noticed I had the wrong half of the fuselage  :banghead:  ;D

Supplier for AKAN in the UK is http://www.coastalcraftmodelsuk.com/akan_paints.php

There's some interesting sets there. May give them a try next time I see them at a show

Double THANK YOU . Most USSR colours are reasonably easy to mix but AMT (?) for Olive Green is a tricky one. Still got one can from WEM but its dangerously low, and probably not enough for a TU-2.....could manage an I-16 at best.

Modelmaster has some Russian tones in their Authentic Line, and I found FS 34096 (also from Modelmaster) to be a very good alternative for the upper green of typical Soviet WWII aircraft. Unfortunately, Humbrol 114 was taken OOB - my personal choice for the same tone.
