I'm not really happy with the way I have airbrushed enamel paint onto my Sabre's tailplanes (it's too thick) and want to remove it and have another go.
I'm willing to try canned oven cleaner, but maybe they don't make it strong enough any more.
Any ideas on what I can use instead?

G'day Allan,

To remove paint I use a caustic soda solution.  It's used predominantly as a drain cleaner.  It also removes glue.  I buy the stuff from Safeways.  It strips paint effectively, but always use gloves and eye protection as it's quite dangerous and don't leave parts in the solution for too long otherwise the soda attacks the plastic.

Hi Allan,

Pollyscale makes a pretty good paint and decal remover.  Check your local hobby shop.

Can you get ModelStrip in Australia?  Comes in a tub as a thick paste.  Paste it onto the model or the bit you want stripped, leave it in a bag for a few hours then wash off.  Goes right down to the primer but it ONLY works with enamels.  Won't touch acrylics unless they have an enamel undercoat, which it will dissolve if there's a hole so the chemical can get underneath.

Hi all,
Thanks for the advice. The hobby shop can order Modelstrip for me, but doesn't have any on the shelf at the moment.
Another shop has Mr Hobby Mr Paint Remover and I think that just might be the ticket, but at lunchtime today I'll check at the supermarket for oven cleaner and try to find something caustic. I'll go with Mr Hobby if I can't find any suitable oven cleaner.
