Although I was originally just thinking the MiG-21, but then the topic has more to do with weapons that can apply to other contemporary light fighters and interceptors......

Even though I think of AIM-120 and R-77 as being cooler, the Derby is lighter (118kg, compared to 152kg of the AIM-120 and 175kg of the R-77) and should therefore be easier to handle by upgraded MiG-21 while its shorter range would place less of a demand on the type of radar for the upgrade......

The Indians are going to use it with their upgraded Sea Harriers, and I think Columbians (or was it Ecuadorian?) will be using it with their Kfir C.10s...... what if the PRC also acquired it for use by their J-7Gs?  Not as long-reaching as the AIM-120 and the TC-2, but BVR capability is still BVR capability......
To the individual soldiers, *everything* is a frontal assault!

I think the Brazilians use Derby on their F-5EMs as well.

EDIT:

Found evidence!

And Python 3, too!

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?
